Know your Identity in Christ

Text: Esther 3:1-6: After these events, King Xerxes honored Haman, son of Hammedatha, the Agagite, elevating him and giving him a seat of honor higher than that of all the other nobles  All the royal officials at the king’s gate knelt down and paid honor to Haman, for the king had commanded this concerning him. But Mordecai would not kneel down or pay him honor.

In our world today, so many people, including the Christians, bow down for cheap things because of their lack of understanding of their identity in Christ.

In verse 4 of our study today, we saw a man who, because of his understanding of who would not stoop down amid intimidation, “I am a Jew, he explained, and I can not bow down to Haman.”

One of the most significant challenges our world is being faced with today is the issue of an identity crisis- people who do virtually everything because everyone else is doing (Vs. 2).

To Mordecai, it’s better to die, than to bow down to the rootless Haman. How many of us bow down to intimidations, stress, lack, and peer pressure today? We don’t want the people to ill speak about us, so we often choose to please the people even when God is not happy with us.

Why do you need to Know your Identity in Christ?

  • It will help you to stay on your track and defend your cause.
  • It will enable you to live your life uniquely. Understanding that you are different from others because Christ lives in, you will encourage you to live for who you are and what you believe to be and right, even if it will involve your life.
  • It magnifies God in you

How to discover your identity?

Know your God. Your understanding of your God is what gives you the real definition of your identity.  The best person to describe a product is the manufacturer of such a product.  So, you cannot know your identity without Him. God created you and through Him, your identity becomes visible.

Know your self. When you know your God, it becomes impossible to be ignorant of who He has made you to be.

Know your purpose. Have you come to discover the reason why you were created? Until that happens, you will continue to live for another man’s purpose, and if care is mot taken, such a person might eventually die unfulfilled.

Anchor word for Today: When you find Him, you find your real identity.
