Living in peace requires effort

Text: Hebrews 12:14: Seek peace with all, and holiness, without which no one will see the Lord.

It may not seem like it, but we have to admit that living in peace with everyone requires a lot of personal effort. To achieve this, we need to have temperance, kindness, goodness, meekness, self-control, qualities of the fruit of the SpiritSpirit that we only develop when we live in holiness.

God never hid it from us that His Kingdom is taken with effort (Matthew 11:12) and that to find it, we must seek it (Matthew 6:33). As we seek things from above – as a consequence – the fruit of the SpiritSpirit is visible in our lives. To live in peace with the brothers is to live in harmony with God, with a heart free from resentment and the desire for revenge.

Living in peace is a worthwhile effort because, above all, we are the first to benefit from acting like this. Every peaceful attitude bears good fruit and bears good witness. That kind of posture is also part of announcing the good news of the Lord. There may be no point in talking about the peace that exceeds all understanding if we live with aggressive behavior reacting to any situation.

When Jesus spoke of the ‘beatitudes,’ many of them start from a peaceful heart, and all are a reflection of holiness before the Lord. Faced with so many blessings and promises, living in peace and holiness is an effort worth pursuing. Let’s be holy!

Exercise peace and seek holiness:

  • The best way to start sanctifying yourself is by meditating on the Word of God. In it, we have all the guidance and every source necessary to feed our Spirit Spirit.
  • Prayer is our faith in action, it is the moment in which we act in faith and adoration. God hears the prayer of his children and wants to listen to our voices.

Prayer:

Lord God, pour out your SpiritSpirit on me. That your move in my life can reflect your love and that my actions reflect that you are working in me. May your peace spill over me to reach those around me. In the name of Jesus, amen.
