Overcoming the load of anxiety

Text: 1 Peter 5: 7: Put all anxiety on him because he takes care of you.

Anxiety really is a problem that devastates our time. It is an anticipated emotional wear that consumes our strength. That suffering before things happen is generated by uncertainty. The devil is a specialist in undermining our faith using this trick.

When the disciples were with Jesus, they also experienced moments when they felt anxiety. On one occasion, they questioned Jesus regarding the future. Jesus responded by saying:

Do not worry about your life, what you will eat or drink, nor for their body, how they will dress. Doesn’t life have more value than food and the body more than clothes? Look at the birds of the sky: they do not sow or harvest or store in barns; however, the heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not worth much more than they? (Matthew 6: 25-26)

Jesus pointed out the remedy to anxiety: trust in God! We must recognize His promises and the plan of salvation. When we understand that God knows all things, and still saved us through his Son, everything seems lighter and more apparent. We have a true Friend who can carry what we cannot bear. The medical doctor who is able to treat the deepest wounds.

How do we give our anxiety to God? Through prayer. The moments of prayer allow us to be in intimacy with God to talk with him about what afflicts us. We can tell God what bothers us and ask him to intervene. When we unload everything before Him in prayer, we free ourselves of that weight.

Remember that Jesus is the symbol of victory, and in Him, we are more than conquerors. When Christ came to earth, He endured everything. He did it precisely because no one would be able to bear everything He carried on Himself. Set aside the uncertainty of your heart by putting your faith in the certainty of salvation and the promises of God.

How to be free from the overweight:

  • Read the text of Matthew 6: 25-34. Jesus talks about anxiety and His words are a true painkiller.
  • Have a daily prayer time. Use that moment to download all the weight that bothers you.
  • Strengthen your faith by reading the Word of God, the Holy Bible. She instructs us and shows us that there is nothing too difficult for God.

 Prayer:

Lord Jesus, I want to place all my worries on you. You are my safe harbor, and Your word is the true antidote to my worries. Help me Oh Lord to be more focused on You and focus less on the issues that may trigger worry in my heart. Help me to find joy in Your promises, and to trust You perpetually, Jesus. In Jesus’ name, I pray, amen.
