The Lord sees the heart

The Lord sees the heart

Text: 1 Samuel 16: 7:But the LORD said to Samuel, “Do not consider his appearance or his height, for I have rejected him. The LORD does not look at the things people look at. People look at the outward appearance, but the LORD looks at the heart.

When Samuel went to Jesse’s house to anoint one of his sons as king of Israel, at first the prophet observed Eliab and thought: “Without a doubt, this is the Lord’s anointed one.”

Samuel, despite serving God with excellence, thought that Eliab – being a good-looking person – would be the person trained to perform such a function. This type of judgment is common in human beings, but God works in another way. God is able to scrutinize the heart and he knows the potential that each one has within himself.

For God, the most important thing is a heart willing to be shaped by Him. The Lord trains whomever he chooses and this is what happened with David. God rejected Eliab and chose the little son “good looking, brunette and of good presence.” Even as the youngest of the house, God trained David day after day to be a great instrument in His hands.

Therefore, it is important that you have a heart willing to receive God’s instruction without only worrying about appearances. Others may not recognize the real value in you, but God knows how much you are worth. He sees your heart. In his moment He will lift you up and train you. In this way, everyone will recognize what God has done in your life and you will perceive everything you have grown thanks to the work of God.

The Lord sees the heart:

  • There are certain challenges that seem to be greater than our ability to meet them. Go to God in prayer and keep your heart open to his instruction. He will enable you to overcome all the challenges.
  • As we gain experience, we must keep our eyes and ears attentive to God. Let your experiences help you to be more captivated by the Lord.
  • A heart always willing to learn is a life willing to grow in Christ. Remember that Jesus came into the world and was a servant. Serve him from the heart and receive His training.

Anchor word for Today: Men may look at the physical, but the Lord sees the heart

Prayer:

Lord Jesus, I want to learn more from You. Do Your work on me. I may not have all the capabilities requires of me, but I know that you train whomever you choose. I want to grow under your direction. In the name of Jesus, amen
